What Are Probiotics?

Probiotics are live microorganisms that are intended to have health benefits when consumed or applied to the body. They can be found in yogurt and other fermented foods, dietary supplements, and beauty products. NCCIH

Probiotic Spray For Acne & Eczema

According to studies done, probiotics can be used internally and in cosmetic products to treat skin diseases including eczema, atopic dermatitis, acne, and allergic inflammation, or in skin hypersensitivity, UV-induced skin damage, and wound protection.

In the past, I have used the Marie Veronique Pre + Probiotic Mist. It did wonders for my small but frequent breakouts I experienced.

My skin never looked better than when I incorporated a probiotic face wash, and the spray into my morning routine. After following this routine, any acne breakouts I had were pretty much gone, and I looked hydrated and even-toned.

This spray is also said to work wonders for eczema prone skin. (Keep reading to learn the why behind it.)

The only problem is that this Marie Veronique probiotic spray is around $40 dollars, and lasts you maybe a month or so. I was lucky to try this out, but over the long run, I definitely couldn’t spend that money on one beauty product every month.

(If you can afford to splurge on it every once in a while though, I highly HIGHLY recommend it and all other products from Marie Veronique!)

But, I realized I could make my own spray!

Learn how you can make your own probiotic spray that has simple ingredients and can give you great skin for under 10 bucks. Plus, it should last you quite a while!

DIY Skin Probiotic Spray

To recreate the benefits I saw from using a probiotic spray, I began to do some research.

There are lots of different ways to make a DIY spray, but I found there is one specific option that is cheap, easy, and effective: make your own DIY probiotic spray from apple cider vinegar!

How To Make Skin Probiotic Spray

To easily make your own DIY Probiotic Spray for skin you’ll need:

Glass is best especially when you are putting vinegar in it!

Make sure you use Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar! (explanation below)

  • Filtered Water

Or distilled water from the store.

Directions:

Add 1-2 tsp to about 1/4 cup filtered water in the glass bottle, then shake it up to mix! Then mist your face at an arm’s length after cleansing in the morning. Be sure to add moisturizer after!

Why Choose Apple Cider Vinegar For Your Probiotic Spray?

Many people are probably familiar with apple cider vinegar. One of the best and most well-known brands is Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar and for good reason. It is organic, unfiltered, raw, and has “the mother”. This is the strand-like material in the vinegar that contains enzymes, proteins, and good bacteria (our beneficial probiotics!). Apple cider vinegar also has a pH of 2-3, making it acidic.

Read on for why this is so important for the skin!

Apple Cider Vinegar Probiotics Are Beneficial For Skin

Since apple cider vinegar is a fermented food, it has good bacteria which is beneficial to your skin. This works as a probiotic does, and helps replenish the skin’s natural microbiome with the good stuff.

What’s even cooler, the acetic acid (vinegar in apple cider vinegar) is great at killing pathogens, (bad bacteria). This is great if you have acne, which is caused by p. acnes the acne bacteria! So, it gets rid of the bad while adding the good!

Also, ACV has a mildly acidic pH, and can rebalance the surface of the skin. Typically, we use a lot of alkaline (higher pH) products on our face which our skin doesn’t like. If the skin is exposed to alkaline products, the skin barrier can become compromised, leading to dryness and irritation. Misting your face with this DIY probiotic spray will bring the pH of the skin back to the pH it prefers.

Can You Really Put Probiotics On Your Skin?

Yes, you can, especially if you make your own DIY skin probiotic spray. You just want to be sure that the apple cider vinegar is very diluted. Even though it has many great properties that are beneficial to the skin, NEVER apply it directly, or use it full strength. This could be harmful to your skin and even cause burns.

The same goes for using lemon, or any other type of kitchen ingredient on your face. It’s probably not the best idea to apply it directly.
